“Breakfast Torque” is an annual motorcycle safety awareness event which is held on the last Sunday of every October at Loftus Oval (located on the Princes Hwy, the main gateway to the south coast and near the entrance to the Royal National Park, a popular riding route).
The three hour event aims to provide the environment and opportunity for relevant road safety messages to be communicated to local riders. Engaging local motorcycle clubs, retailers and representative groups to manage and present the agenda, Breakfast Torque is seen by the local riding fraternity as a motorcycling event for riders, by riders.
The activities commences at 8am with a free breakfast for riders.
The “on-stage” program consists of a number of presentations including:
- a showcase of the latest safety gear, presented by the Motorcycle Council of NSW
- the latest motorcycling road safety initiatives, presented by the RTA
- a simulated crash scene with commentary involving stunt rider, Paramedics and Police
There is also a riding skills demonstration conducted by Stay Upright, providing instruction pertaining to the difficulties in low speed manoeuvring.
Each year 30-40 stalls and displays are on-site, including those from motorcycle dealers, manufacturers, clubs, and accessory retailers as well as other motorcycling businesses.
The morning concludes with a prize draw, supplied by the sponsors attending. Over 1,100 riders attended Breakfast Torque in 2009.
