"Breakfast Torque" is an annual motorcycle safety awareness event which is held on the last Sunday of every October at Loftus Oval (located on the Princes Hwy, the main gateway to the south coast and near the entrance to the Royal National Park, a popular riding route).
The three hour event aims to provide the environment and opportunity for relevant road safety messages to be communicated to local riders. Engaging local motorcycle clubs, retailers and representative groups to manage and present the agenda, Breakfast Torque is seen by the local riding fraternity as a motorcycling event for riders, by riders.
The activities commences at 8am with a free breakfast for riders. The “on-stage” program consists of a number of presentations including:
There is also a riding skills demonstration conducted by Stay Upright, providing instruction pertaining to the difficulties in low speed manoeuvring.
Each year 30-40 stalls and displays are on-site, including those from motorcycle dealers, manufacturers, clubs, and accessory retailers as well as other motorcycling businesses.
The morning concludes with a prize draw, supplied by the sponsors attending. Over 1,100 riders attended Breakfast Torque in 2009.

Motorcycle and Scooter Safety Summit
The Summit was initiated as a means to give voice to key stakeholders and to facilitate consensus on measures to improve motorcycle and scooter safety. Recommendations from the Summit were finalised in consultation with the Motorcycle Safety Consultative Committee (MSCC). In line with the objectives of the Summit, it is proposed to use the recommendations as input to the development of the post-2010 National Road Safety Strategy.
STRANSW was represented at Motorcycle and Scooter Safety Summit last year by our Secretary David Tynan, who is also the Road Safety Officer at Blacktown City Council. The results of the Summit are available at this link
